Telecom Transport Management, the heavily-funded Seattle provider of backhaul services to wireless carriers, today named Lynn Refer as chief executive.
The former president of Metro Network Services at Level 3 Communications takes over from co-founder Mark Hamilton, who will remain at the company as executive chairman. At Level 3, Refer oversaw the company's network operations at fiber optics facilities.
In 2006, he sold Looking Glass Networks to Level 3 for $165 million. Before that, he worked at MCI WorldCom, MFS Communications and Ameritech.
Backed by Columbia Capital, Battery Ventures, Ignition Partners, Trilogy and others, TTM received a committment for $120 million in funding in November 2007. The company's backhaul system is designed so that carriers can more efficiently transport mobile gaming, video and other tasks over their wireless networks.
It was founded in 2003 by former McCaw Cellular executives.
