The folks over at Curious Office Partners already produced one hit earlier this year when Cafe Press gobbled up ImageKind, a provider of online custom framing services. Now, the small Seattle Internet investment firm -- led by Kelly Smith and Adrian Hanauer -- is going for another with the announcement of Pressplane.
Smith isn't saying much about the direction of the new startup, other than to note that it is a "buy and sell marketplace" similar in business structure to ImageKind. At a meetup last night in Pioneer Square, an entrepreneur told me if he had unlimited capital to invest he would certainly back Smith.
It looks like some other prominent angel investors in town also like what they see in the entrepreneur and his new project.
Investors in Pressplane's $1.7 million round include: Mika Salmi (MTV President / AtomFilms founder) Rich Barton (Founder, Expedia / Zillow) Erik Blachford (former Expedia CEO) Andy Liu (BuddyTV) Alex Algard (Founder, Whitepages) Geoff Entress (Madrona) Andy Sack Adrian Hanauer (MLS Soccer, Curious Office co-founder) John Cunningham Doug Rowan (former Corbis CEO) That's an impressive slate of investors, so it will be interesting to hear what Pressplane comes up with.
