We got a great response from some very -- let's say resourceful -- entrepreneurs who jumped at the chance to get free tickets to next week's Entrepreneur University in Seattle.
In fact, we liked the responses so much that we were able to give away two additional tickets. Here are the winners with their brief e-mail submissions on why they should attend. Nice job guys.
"I've still got a great deal to learn about business, and this looks like a great opportunity to learn from some of Seattle's best. One thing I have learned so far is there is no reason to be too proud to ask for free tickets -- cash may be king, but not spending cash is even better."
"My co-founder and I would very much like to attend the Entrepreneur University event. Our timing to date has been less than ideal, as we gave notice at our previous employer (Disney) the week before the market crashed, but we were undaunted. We are very early stage, having incorporated last week and working now on our business plan and prototype. The market is scary, but we are committed and motivated (needing pay at some point). We are taking every opportunity to network and learn, and I think we'd be receptive and contributing attendees at Entrepreneur University. I may pay to go anyway, but that $325 could be spent keeping us fed for a few weeks."
"I'm hoping you'll give me one of the tickets because getting to local events and listening to others is one half of how I've learned to be a more effective entrepreneur. The other half is in working, working, working to build companies on a shoestring and successfully growing revenues every year despite the economy, the skepticism of others, my own mistakes, and (occasional) self-doubt."
"We are so scrappy, I have to ask you to return this e-mail so I can use it again. We are so scrappy, my partner in Beijing only uses one chopstick to save wear and tear. We are so scrappy, we would never be able to pay to attend this event, but might try to put a smudged stamp on the back of our hand to say we just stepped out to the bathroom... Most of all, we are so scrappy, we've taken the concept of producing and distributing digital content in China and made it profitable in 15 months. We'd love to attend, and hope this convinces you we deserve the tickets. And, oh, I'm serious about the e-mail thing."
