Amazon.com will start selling low-cost XO laptops from the One Laptop per Child Foundation on Nov. 17.
The Cambridge, Mass.-based foundation developed the durable, environmentally friendly laptops to give out for free to poor children in developing countries.
Last holiday season, the foundation launched the "Give One Get One" program in the U.S., letting consumers buy two XO laptops for $400 with the requirement that they donate at least one of them.
But the program was reportedly dogged by delivery problems — which explains the participation of Amazon this year. The online retailer has a vast network of fulfillment centers and a well-established sales channel.
Amazon has a brief promo for One Laptop per Child on its website but few details beyond "Coming Nov 17."
The foundation's website may be having lots of visitors at the moment, because it won't load right now.
