The housing market is in the tank. And online real estate upstarts such as Redfin and Zillow.com are trimming back. But Estately, one of the smallest of the Seattle online real estate startups, continues to expand.
Today, the company led by Galen Ward is announcing that it is rolling out its real estate search service in Chicago and Long Island. Estately now has more than 330,000 homes and condos for sale, with a new feature that now lists past sales of the properties in the database.
Despite the rocky economic climate, Ward said the company continues to attract users. Estately had its highest traffic day in terms of unique visitors on Monday.
"Right now we are growing in every market we are in and new markets pay for themselves relatively quickly," he says. "We're lean and efficient - we have definitely made some mistakes, but 2009 is looking good to us right now."
But it still has a long way to go before catching up to larger real estate search players like Redfin.
