TiVo users who want to program their digital video recorders while on the go have a new tool at their disposal thanks in part to the efforts of Redmond startup. MobUI, which gobbled up the assets of Action Engine a few months ago, is providing some of the technology for TiVo's new mobile offering dubbed m.Tivo.com. It allows those with an Internet-enabled mobile device to program shows remotely on TiVo series 2 and series 3 boxes.
The Idaho Statesman looks into whether Micron -- Idaho's largest private employer with about 7,500 jobs in Boise -- might cut more jobs and eventually ship its computer chip production to lower cost facilities in Asia. The story fuels some speculation that the money-losing company might pull out of Boise altogether, quoting a former chief economist who says the company could disappear from the region in three to five years. Xconomy, the Cambridge, Mass.-based technology news outlet that covers Seattle, San Diego and Boston, has closed the first portion of its second round of capital. LaunchCapital, CommonAngels and individual angel investors participated in the undisclosed round.
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation plans to expand its grant program by just 10 percent in 2009, a slower pace than years past and one that The Wall Street Journal says is a sign that "even the biggest players in philanthropy aren't immune to the turmoil hitting financial markets."
