Could Microsoft's Yahoo deal rise from the dead? That was the speculation following Google's decision to back out of its advertising deal with Yahoo today, and Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang added fuel to the fire with comments at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco this afternoon.
Said Yang, according to CNet News.com: "To this day, I have to say that the best thing for Microsoft to do is to buy Yahoo. I don't think that is a bad idea at all ... at the right price, whatever the price is, we are willing to sell the company."

It's important to note that Microsoft lost interest when Google and Yahoo were still planning to pursue their search-advertising partnership. Now that the Google-Yahoo deal is off, it's possible that the Redmond company might find Yahoo appealing again -- particularly given its current market valuation, well below Microsoft's original $31-per-share offer. Apart from a full acquisition, the other possibility Microsoft considered was a deal for Yahoo's search business.
Microsoft, for whatever it's worth, isn't saying whether it would be interested in trying to strike any type of deal with Yahoo again.
