Changes at OVP, Hull leaving |
Follow the ups and downs of a new Seattle startup in a series of behind-the-scenes posts by its founders.
Carl Weissman
OVP Venture Partners today named Carl Weissman managing director, while the Kirkland venture capital firm also announced that John Hull is leaving to pursue other interests.
"After nearly a decade in venture, this felt like a good time to explore some of my other areas of interest," said Hull in a statement. "While I'm leaving the firm, I'll always consider OVP family and I look forward to seeing the firm continue to prosper." Hull joined OVP in 2004 from Intel Capital.
Weissman has been working with OVP as a venture partner for the past 22 months. He is best known for leading the Accelerator, the Seattle biotech business incubator that is backed by OVP, Arch Venture Partners, Amgen and others. Weissman will continue to hold the CEO title of Accelerator, while David Schubert is taking on the role of president.
"Over the last two years in particular, my responsibilities representing OVP on the boards of exciting companies like Fate Therapeutics and Allozyne have expanded, and this formalizes that reality. It also enables me to continue my active role in building the next generation of emerging biotechnology companies at Accelerator," said Weissman, who previosly worked as a venture partner at MPM Capital.
UPDATE: Here's what Weissman had to say about the changes: "This is more of a recognition of what was already operationally happening. Accelerator is and will remain a major focus and source of deal flow for me."
