RealNetworks is taking its online casual games business into new territory.
The company is rolling out Tiki Towers, its first game title targeting multiple platforms outside the PC. The game, featuring monkeys and bamboo bridges, will be available for the iPhone and iPod touch on Dec. 15, and a Nintendo Wii version will come out later this month, spokesman Bill Hankes said. The game is available on some mobile phones today.
VentureBeat has more on Tiki Towers, calling it an "interesting maneuver" for an older casual games company given the flood of PC game titles on the market and the rising prominence of the iPhone and iPod Touch as game platforms.
VentureBeat said RealNetworks is launching 20 game titles this quarter for multiple platforms, including six for the iPhone.
RealNetworks last week cut 130 people -- 7.5 percent of its workforce. It announced some time ago plans to spin out its games business as a separate company, though that hasn't happened yet.
