Qi Lu, a former Yahoo search and advertising engineering executive, will soon join Microsoft in a top online position, reports AllThingsD's Kara Swisher this morning, following up on her earlier reports. This would the new "senior lead position" that the company created this summer in its Online Services Business.
Lu was one of several key Yahoo executives who left over the summer. The timing of his departure was notable in part because it followed Yahoo's announcement of a proposed search-advertising deal with Google. That deal later unraveled in the face of an impending U.S. antitrust challenge.
Swisher reports today that Lu's appointment at Microsoft could come as early as Monday. She notes that the company is still ironing out details, including whether to have Lu partner with another executive who has broader business experience.
