Is there a shakeup going on in the cloud-computing space?
Sun Microsystems is apparently shelving its Network.com business, which let users buy computing power from Sun on a pay-per-use basis.
Sun's setback could be good news for Amazon.com's EC2 cloud-computing service (which just today expanded to Europe).
Sun is looking at ways to revive the service, but the company has offered few details, according to various reports.
Sun is "still supporting customers who signed up for the Grid service but stopped accepting new customers several weeks ago," according to a report in PC World, which notes that Sun's offering predated Amazon's EC2.
A brief message on the Network.com website says the service is "making changes."
"Network.com is in transition as we add some exciting new options," it reads.
There are still plenty of big players in the cloud, including Salesforce.com, Google and, increasingly, Microsoft.
But are we likely to see more companies like Sun reevaluating their plans?
