Amazon targets new web services customer: Uncle Sam |
Follow the ups and downs of a new Seattle startup in a series of behind-the-scenes posts by its founders.
Amazon.com has targeted its cloud-computing business at startup companies, large enterprises, and the scientific community. Now it appears to be making a play for government agencies.
A new job posting on the Amazon website seeks a business development manager for "Amazon Government Solutions." The position, based in Ashburn, Va., in the greater Washington, D.C. area, requires an understanding of the federal government and government contractors and their technical needs.
The job description reads:
"Would you like to be part of a team focused on increasing awareness and adoption of Amazon Web Services by developing relationships with government organizations and ecosystem partners? Do you have the business savvy and the technical background necessary to help establish Amazon as a key technology platform provider in the federal, state and DOD communities?"
There are certainly lots of technology possibilities emerging with the incoming Obama administration, including the president-elect's proposal to digitize the nation's health care records (Microsoft and Google have projects to put personal health records online).
Is Amazon lining up to tap federal dollars?
