Attachmate Chief Executive Jeff Hawn won't be in the office today. That's because the 45-year-old tech executive is scheduled to appear in a Colorado court for sentencing in the bizarre bison slaying case that occurred last February on ranch land near South Park.
Hawn, who leads Seattle-based Attachmate, is facing 10 days in jail after pleading guilty to criminal mischief and cruelty to animals in November. The Denver Post reports that the court has received letters of support for Hawn from former Xerox president Shelby Carter and San Diego Padres Chairman John Moores, who calls Hawn "a humble and decent man who is devoted to his family."
Thirty two bison were killed in the incident, which was allegedly coordinated by Hawn.
One of Seattle's largest software companies, Attachmate cut 10 percent of its staff earlier this month. If Hawn goes to jail, he won't be the only Seattle tech exec behind bars.
Former Entellium CEO Paul Johnston -- who pleaded guilty to wire fraud last month -- remains incarcerated as he awaits a March 13 sentencing. He's expected to serve four to five years.
UPDATE: The Denver Post reports that a judge has sentenced Hawn to 10 days in jail.
