RealNetworks CEO Rob Glaser expresses confidence in RealDVD
RealNetworks Chief Executive Rob Glaser tells the Associated Press and other reporters that he expects to win a lawsuit brought by major movie studios over the company's DVD copying software, RealDVD.
A judge has prohibited RealNetworks from distributing the software, which Hollywood studios argue allows people to illegaly copy their films to personal computers.
Vistors to the RealDVD Web site are greeted with this message:
"Due to recent legal action taken by the Hollywood movie studios against us, RealDVD is temporarily unavailable. Rest assured, we will continue to work diligently to provide you with software that allows you to make a legal copy of your DVDs for your own use."
Glaser, who was at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, conceded that he was ware of some risk of litigation before they brought the product to market. But he tells AP that they "tried to avoid it."
