Wii trounces Xbox 360 and PS3, but Nintendo reduces forecast |

The latest results from Nintendo and Sony are out, and as expected, the Nintendo Wii continued to dominate the worldwide video-game console market during the critical holiday shopping season. However, Nintendo surprised investors by reducing its forecasts for console sales -- the first big sign that video games may be susceptible to the global economic turmoil.
Nintendo sold more than 10 million Wiis worldwide during the quarter ended Dec. 31. That compares with the 6 million Xbox 360s shipped by Microsoft and about 4.5 million PlayStation 3s sold by Sony during the quarter. We've crunched the numbers and compiled the results for the past three holiday quarters in the chart above.
Despite its healthy lead, Nintendo says Wii sales didn't meet its expectations, and it reduced its forecast for the current fiscal year by 1 million consoles to 26.5 million, according to this Bloomberg News report.
