Introducing the Seattle Tech All-Star Fantasy Rock Band |

We're dreaming up an All Star band of Seattle techies. We've got Microsoft alums Jim Allchin and Paul Allen jamming on guitar. Presidents of the United States of America veteran and Melodeo exec Dave Dederer on guitar and vocals. Streaming media guru Steve Mack as singer. And, of course, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer as dancer.
We're still missing a few key pieces. Who should play bass, drums and keyboards? And what should the band be called?
Of course, this is all pure fantasy -- a Seattle technology supergroup existing only in our heads, for now. But our post earlier this week about former Windows chief Allchin's new album got us to thinking about all the Seattle techies who moonlight as musicians, and that led us to imagine the lineup above.
We filled out our list with suggestions from Dederer and some helpful Twitter users.
Everyone on the list has a knack for performing. For anyone unfamiliar with Mack, he's a Seattle native and RealNetworks alum who was lead singer in That Petrol Emotion, an '80s Irish rock band based in London that has recently reunited for a comeback tour.
Before joining Seattle startup Melodeo in 2007, Dederer was nominated twice for Grammy awards as part of the Seattle rock band Presidents of the United States of America. Allen's love of the guitar is well-known. And Allchin is clearly enjoying his music in his post-Microsoft life.
So we know they would have fun. And who knows, maybe they'd even sound good together.
