Amazon.com isn't the only company making headlines with its electronic book reader. A Silicon Valley firm called Plastic Logic, which is developing its own e-reader, announced today it has struck "strategic deals" with the Financial Times and USA Today, as well as a handful of digital content providers.
Plastic Logic is developing an e-reader that has a larger screen than both Amazon's Kindle and the Sony Reader -- and is expected to roll out early next year. The firm's other content partners are Ingram Digital (ebooks), LibreDigital (enewspapers), Zinio (emagazines).
The New York Times has more on Plastic Logic's announcements, noting that:
Unlike the other products, the screen of the Plastic Logic Reader is big enough to more closely approximate the look of a printed newspaper or magazine page.
The company is hoping that the larger size will interest publishers who think that shrinking a newspaper page onto a small screen does not provide a good reading experience.
The Times, however, said it has not yet decided whether to make an electronic version of its daily paper available to Plastic Logic. Amazon unveiled the next-generation version of its Kindle e-reader today.
