Microsoft 'My Phone' not a phone, even though it rhymes with one |

Microsoft's widely rumored mobile synchronization service, previously known by the code name Skybox, made an early debut today. However, it's going by the name "My Phone" -- which, of course, just happens to rhyme with the name of a certain Apple device.
Does anyone out there remember Lindows? The company, now known as Linspire, was sued by Microsoft for trademark infringment several years back because of the similarities between the name of its Linux-based operating system and Windows. However, in that case, they were direct competitors. In this situation, Microsoft would appear to be protected by the fact that My Phone isn't a phone.
As detailed on this Microsoft My Phone page, the service will synchronize and backup data, contacts, pictures and other information from a user's Windows Mobile 6 device to an online storage space. Users will be able to access the information from a PC, as well, and shift the data to a different device if they get a new phone.
The features are similar to Apple's MobileMe. Microsoft's service was expected to be announced at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, but the site went live earlier than expected and was quickly spotted by Engadget earlier today. Microsoft says it will have more details on the My Phone beta at the event.
