Gallery: The shirts that Microsoft workers no longer want to wear |
Follow the ups and downs of a new Seattle startup in a series of behind-the-scenes posts by its founders.
One of my favorite weekend activities is perusing the Seattle region's thrift stores. I noticed something interesting on Sunday-- an overabundance of Microsoft t-shirts. A lot more than I've noticed before. There were dozens at one Goodwill alone.
OK, so this is about as unscientific as it gets. For one thing, I've never actually counted them in the past. And there are many reasons people get rid of shirts. But getting laid off must be one of the biggest. After all, who wants to wear a reminder of a lost job? In that way, a sudden glut of second-hand Microsoft apparel would make a lot sense.
Whatever the cause, the shirts are a fun glimpse into the company's internal culture and mindset. My favorite was the one pictured above, with the message, "Think your iPhone is cool? Let me show you a thing or two about Windows Mobile." Wow, that would be an interesting conversation. Come to think of it, it's not surprising that shirt was given away.
Here's a gallery of Microsoft-related highlights from the $2 rack.
