Microsoft hints at more 'Halo' |
Follow the ups and downs of a new Seattle startup in a series of behind-the-scenes posts by its founders.
Microsoft is raising new speculation about the future of its blockbuster "Halo" Xbox 360 video-game franchise with a job posting seeking a lead designer to help "develop a new experience in the Halo universe." On top of that, Halo's franchise development director Frank O'Connor tells USA Today, "I doubt we have seen the last of Master Chief."
It's not clear what new Halo experience the job posting is referring to, or in what form we might see the return of Halo's protagonist. IGN points out that this is an internal Microsoft team, not part of Bungie, the studio that created the Halo franchise before being spun out of the company. The job posting could be referring to a previously announced Halo project, such one from movie producer Peter Jackson.
Microsoft and Ensemble Studios just released "Halo Wars," a real-time strategy game based on the Halo franchise.
I've asked a Microsoft representative for some clarification, and I'll update this post depending on the response. In any event, the job posting and O'Connor's comment make it clear that the company isn't close to being done trying to capitalize on the Halo brand. The last full version of the console game, "Halo 3," broke all sorts of sales records when it was released in 2007.
