Sixty-six people who work at Microsoft under contracts through Volt Workforce Solutions haven't agreed to the 10 percent pay cuts instituted by the temporary agency after the Redmond company cut its billing rates, the Seattle P-I's Joe Tartakoff reports this afternoon, citing an internal memo obtained by the newspaper.
Volt is believed to be the largest provider of Microsoft temporary workers, so that number may not be that large in the scheme of things. However, it suggests that there's at least a small minority of workers upset enough by the cuts to risk their jobs by declining to agree to a contract revision.
Microsoft last month told its providers of temporary workers that it was cutting, by 10 percent, the amount it pays them for workers on current assignments and reducing, by 15 percent, the target billing rate for future assignments. The changes take effect March 16. In an earlier memo, Volt gave its workers on Microsoft assignments until March 3 to agree to the pay cuts.
One Volt worker, Phil Palios, questioned the legality of the contract revision and organized a protest, but later said he had decided to accept the pay cuts and keep his job.
