PeHub's Dan Primack puts together his annual list of "The Walking Dead" -- venture capital firms that are technically in business but just aren't doing new deals. Primack's list has 14 firms, including BluePrint Ventures and Diamondhead Ventures. I didn't see any Pacific Northwest firms, but there has to be some "walking dead" among us no?
So, I looked at my list of Seattle venture capital firms to see if there are any firms that might qualify. While these firms may not be dead or even "walking dead," they certainly have been quiet for some time.
I can't remember the last time I saw any of them do a new deal: Alexander Hutton Venture Partners; Guide Ventures; Northwest Venture Associates and Timberline Venture Partners.
Primack was looking for more firms to add to his list. Maybe these would make his cut.
Interestingly, this was also a topic of conversation on my visit to OVP Venture Partners last week, with Chad Waite calling it the ever "shrinking venture industry."
It just reminds me of Douglas MacArthur's famous quote: "Old soldiers never die, they just fade away." Is that the same for the venture business?
