Perhaps Seattle's snowstorm of the century last December 2008 sparked this idea. Cameron Ferroni, the former GM of Microsoft's Xbox and former chief technology officer at Marchex, is working on a secretive startup that is attempting to help people react better when the snow is piling up or the flood waters are rising.
At this point, there's no Web site and Ferroni says they are still working on a name. In a message sent through Facebook, here's all the former Microsoft veteran would say: "We are building an online service to help people communicate and make better decisions during natural disasters and weather-related emergencies."
Other Seattle area startups offer technology solutions to help people or companies prepare for disasters, including Prepared Response and Varolii.
It is unclear whether Ferroni's new project will head in those directions. But he's certainly on the prowl for new opportunities. His LinkedIn profile says he's "looking for the next big thing."
