Top startups for February from Seattle 2.0
There wasn't much movement at the top of the Seattle 2.0 startup list for the month of February, with Zillow still holding onto the top spot followed by Pet Holdings and iLike. But there were some big movers further down the list, notably three startups that are food-oriented. That's a bit surprising given that I thought the economic woes were causing folks to forego restaurants.
Nonetheless, restaurant review site Urbanspoon moved 15 spots up the list to 13th, while competitor Menuism surged 17 slots to 15th. Big Oven's move from 25th to 7th place makes a little more sense since it helps people figure out what to cook at home. Other big movers included Avvo, which moved from 61st to 17th. (The need for lawyers never goes away, I guess). Feedjit and Nutsie also saw big gains. (Clarification: The increases noted above are compared to the same period last year, not the previous month.)
The list, developed by Marcelo Calbucci, uses Compete.com and Alexa to determine rankings. As I've said every time I re-publish the list, this is more of a fun exercise than a true measure of a startup company's value.
