Google's Eric Schmidt chats with Charlie Rose about a wide range of topics -- the early days at the search giant, why the initial attempts to create an online advertising model didn't work and why the company won't be buying Twitter anytime soon. He also notes that one of the best things about America is its ability to spawn young entrepreneurs who energetically invent things. "There's a rule in Silicon Valley that the great entrepreneurs break out early," said Schmidt.
Schmidt also notes that people thought Google's introduction of Gmail on April 1, 2004 was an April Fool's joke. And he discusses the future of mobile devices such as the Kindle as well as offering opinions on why it is hard to monetize some user-generated content sites. In minute 20, Schmidt also says that micropayments -- where people could pay one cent, three cents or five cents for a view -- are likely to be successful. Some big laughs in minute 27 when Schmidt says they "do not sneak a look" into people's gmail accounts.
