Big batch of Microsoft patches
Time to update those Windows machines. Microsoft today released eight security bulletins addressing more than 20 vulnerabilities in products including Windows, Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer. Ten of the vulnerabilities have highest rating of "critical."
Ben Greenbaum of Symantec Security Response said in an emailed statement that one of the Internet Explorer bugs is particularly troubling.
“Vulnerability CVE-2009-0554 appears to be the easiest of the bunch to take advantage of by an attacker and also happens to be the one that requires the least amount of involvement by a user to exploit," he wrote. "An attacker can simply lure a victim into viewing a Web page that contains malicious content and that individual’s computer can then be taken over.”
Users with Microsoft's Automatic Updates turned on in Windows will have the fixes delivered automatically to their machines for installation. Get technical details on this Microsoft page or download them directly via this page.
