Rating neighbors, Governors, VCs and more on PersonRatings.com |
Follow the ups and downs of a new Seattle startup in a series of behind-the-scenes posts by its founders.
There are online rating sites for attorneys, CEOs and doctors. Now, a Seattle startup wants to rate every American in the country. Dubbed PersonRatings, the site is launching today with more than one million ratings.
For example, you can see the Gov. Chris Gregoire has an overall 2.53 rating. ( She scores high in the sub category of "successful" and low in the sub category of "sexy.") The famous Seattle clown J.P. Patches has an overall rating of 4.53, while venture capitalist Bill Gurley comes in at 3.19.
Founder Jeremy Stamper described the site as a "Yelp for everybody."
"I believe that in the future, every person's detailed lifetime reputation will be accessible from a single web page," said Stamper, who previously served as CEO of Progressive Homesellers and The Delaware Company. "We obviously want to provide that service."
The site has more than 250,000 profiles, with Stamper saying it is adding about 100,000 people each week.
ABC News covered the startup last week, talking to people who didn't like their ratings and privacy experts who wonder if the ranking service will deteriorate into a place for personal attacks.
"Normally, no good comes from these sites. They become places of abuse," ReputationDefender.com founder Michael Fertik tells ABC. "I hope this doesn't happen to it."
In what Fox called "The War of the Websites," Stamper matches up against Fertik in this video. The ReputationDefender CEO says for most private people you only get one or two reviews, so it turns into a "platform for defamation."
