Heating and air conditioning technologies aren't the sexiest of products. But a new HVAC software system from Seattle's Optimum Energy is helping the San Jose International Airport save some cash, while reducing carbon emissions.
Since installing Optimum's automated monitoring and management technology six months ago, the airport says it has saved more than $35,000 and 235,000 kilowatt hours of electricity.
Optimum CEO Nathan Rothman called the results "phenomenal" and said they proved that heating and air conditioning systems can be made much more efficient in commercial buildings.
The company raised a $5 million round of capital in the fall of 2007, one of several venture-backed companies in the Seattle area (including Verdiem and PowerIt Solutions) that are focused on reducing energy consumption at corporations.
Optimum is focusing its efforts on buildings with more than 100,000 square feet of space.
