The launch this week of SeattlePostGlobe.org brought together many journalists who worked for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer's print edition before it ceased publication. In the meantime, many others have started blogs and news sites of their own.
It's great to see so many of our former P-I colleagues continuing their coverage online. But having them scattered across different sites makes them difficult to follow as a group. With that in mind, we at TechFlash thought it would be a fun experiment to bring everyone back together in one big online mashup. So we did.
Starting with food writer Rebekah Denn's list of former staffers, we combined publicly available feeds into a unified, real-time news stream that aggregates and links to content from SeattlePI.com, SeattlePostGlobe and TechFlash, plus former P-I staffers Denn, Regina Hackett, RM Campbell, Leslie Kelly, Cecelia Goodnow, Gene Stout, Angelo Bruscas, Andrew Schneider, Paul Nyhan and others. We even included rhyming news tweets from Mark Trahant.
See a live example below, look under the hood on Yahoo Pipes (the tool we used to create the unified feed), or subscribe in your favorite newsreader via this RSS link. Let us know if we missed anyone. We'll add new sources as more reporters and editors launch sites.
Of course, it's not exactly the same as the real thing. But it is pretty cool to see everyone on the same page again.
