Zillow.com tops startup list |
Follow the ups and downs of a new Seattle startup in a series of behind-the-scenes posts by its founders.
Zillow.com distanced its lead in the monthly Seattle 2.0 rankings. The Seattle online real estate company has boosted traffic in recent months in part because more people are turning to its mortgage marketplace given the historic low interest rates. (I've also heard that Zillow has tweaked its SEO techniques, but that's another story.) According to Zillow, the company had 8.8 million unique visitors last month. Compete.com showed Zillow just topping five million uniques, up 95 percent for the year.
The other top Internet companies in the Seattle area included iLike, Picnik, BuddyTV and Wetpaint. Pet Holdings tumbled because list creator Marcelo Calbucci split the company's two most popular sites: I Can has Cheezburger (#6 on the list) and Fail Blog (#8 on the list).
Per my usual disclaimer, this list is more of a fun exercise than it is an actual judge of business performance. The Seattle 2.0 Index is derived from rankings on Compete.com and Alexa.
