Amazon Fresh adds more Seattle grocery delivery zones |
Follow the ups and downs of a new Seattle startup in a series of behind-the-scenes posts by its founders.
Amazon Fresh, Amazon.com's grocery delivery service, is expanding in Seattle again. The service today added two new zip codes, 98146 (West Seattle, White Center) and 98108 (South Seattle, Georgetown, South Park), to its delivery area. Amazon Fresh has been gradually filling out its footprint in the greater Seattle area. It hasn't launched in other parts of the country, at least yet.
Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, at the company's recent shareholder meeting in Seattle, continued to describe Amazon Fresh as an "experiment." The grocery delivery service has continued to add new products and website features, which it chronicles on its blog and through Twitter updates.
Amazon, perhaps mindful of its dot-com era investments in HomeGrocer.com (later Webvan) and Kozmo, is taking a cautious, incremental approach to grocery delivery this time around. The online retailer, however, does appear to be moving ahead with selling bottles of wine online nationally.
