Microsoft plans to integrate Facebook and Twitter into Xbox Live, letting people use their Xbox 360s to follow their friends and update their status on the popular social networks. It was one of a series of attention-grabbing announcements from the company today at the E3 video-game convention in Los Angeles.
The features are slated to be rolled out in the fall, free to Xbox Live Gold members. Silver members will get a free trial period.
Facebook will also be integrated into games -- letting people post in-game screenshots directly to their profiles, for example. Microsoft says that feature will start with a future release of EA Sports' Tiger Woods PGA Tour (pictured above). That feature will work via Facebook Connect. Typing text into the Xbox 360 isn't easy with the standard controller. Microsoft separately sells a plug-in keypad for $30.
