Apparently a big chunk of Microsoft's $80 million to $100 million Bing advertising budget has been allocated to electricity bills. The company is lighting up Seattle's Space Needle and the surrounding area tonight to promote the new search engine.
If you're in the area, the show begins around 10 p.m. The legs and halo of the landmark will be lit in orange, and a "search light beam" will symbolize the new search engine. The Pacific Science Center arches will also be illuminated in orange, and a 90-foot by 30-foot light installation will spell out the word "Bing" in the grass.
The company launched the search engine earlier this week to a generally favorable reception. The Bing buzz continues Wednesday morning with an appearance by Qi Lu, president of Microsoft's Online Services Business, at the SMX Advanced conference in Seattle. We'll be there covering the interview, so stay tuned for coverage tomorrow.
