A new series of ads for Microsoft Bing, launching tonight on the "Daily Show," will employ an unusual concept to promote the company's new search engine. The company is buying a 2 minute, 30 second advertising slot, but using only 30 seconds of it and giving back the rest to the show so that Jon Stewart & Co. can offer extra content.
A company representative says the 30 seconds Microsoft does use will replicate a DVR fast-forward experience, appearing to scan quickly through the commercials to return people to the show. According to the company, the message is that Bing cuts through the clutter and gets people "exactly what they want."
Should be interesting to see how the concept is executed. After the Daily Show tonight, the company will use the gimmick June 12 on CMT’s “Top 20 Countdown”; June 14 on Nick@Nite’s “George Lopez"; June 15 on VH1’s “Charm School with Ricki Lake”; and June 17 on MTV’s “Real World/Road Rules Challenges: The Duel 2.”
We'll post video of the ad once it's available.
