Last month, we had quite a debate on TechFlash over whether there's value in re-printing the Seattle Startup Index from Marcelo Calbucci each month. Some folks say the list is not truly representative of the Seattle startup community, others questioned the methodology and a few just didn't like my headline. (I tried to take some of your advice this time on the header.)
Anyway, I am publishing this month's list of 328 startups again -- in part because I feel it is better to share information than hold it back. I also think it is worthwhile to see what startups are moving up and down the list, though Calbucci even points out today that there "a lot of good and bad things" about the list.
And here's my disclaimer: The Seattle Startup Index is a fun exercise which uses Compete.com and Alexa rankings to determine the top startup Web sites in the Seattle area. It is not an indicator of future success, as the true measure of success for any business is revenue and profits.
Here's a look at the top 25 startups for May, based on the Seattle Startup Index.
