Time will tell if this is a temporary blip or a permanent trend, but it like those Bing ads may be working. Numbers released by the comScore Networks research firm today show Microsoft's new search engine continuing to boost the company's position in the U.S. market.
Bing's "average daily searcher penetration" rose to 16.7 percent last week, up from 15.8 percent the week before and 13.7 percent prior to the search engine's launch at the beginning of the month, according to the comScore numbers. See the full chart below.
The research firm didn't release comparable numbers for Google and Yahoo, which have historically led Microsoft by wide margins in the market. Industry observers and others will be watching the month-end numbers closely to get a sense for where they stand.
“It appears that Microsoft Bing has continued to generate interest from the market for the second consecutive week,” said Mike Hurt, comScore senior vice president, in a news released issued by the research firm. “These early data reflect a continued positive market reaction to Bing in the initial stages of its launch.”
