How much money can you save by simply turning off the computer? A new offering from Seattle's Verdiem -- maker of the Surveyor power management software -- will help corporations and government agencies keep track of whether their energy conservation programs are paying off.
The dashboard includes interactive graphs and charts showing how much money is saved and the amount of carbon emissions that are reduced. It works in conjunction with Verdiem's Surveyor product, a software management product that IT administrators use to remotely power down PCs when they are not in use.
Some government agencies say they've already seen success with the tools. The City of Chicago said that they have reduced PC energy consumption by 30 percent since they started using the product in February.
Meanwhile, Washington state's King County said it has seen a 38 percent reduction in energy consumption, eliminating more than three million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions.
Founded in 2001, Verdiem is led by serial entrepreneur Jeremy Jaech and backed by Silicon Valley venture firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.
