A diverse crowd lined up in the rain outside the Apple store at Seattle's University Village this morning to be the first to get their hands on the new iPhone 3G S (See related Photo Gallery). Here's a sampling of what people had to say.
Julie Bayer, 31: "I'm ready for the apps to take over my life. I'm very excited about how it integrates everything into your phone, the web and your applications. It's my first iPhone. .. I was hoping that it would switch to Verizon because it's a pain to switch to AT&T, but I held out for two years and now I'm ready to do it."
Hadley Hillel, just turned 14, camped out overnight in front of Apple store: "I'm most looking forward to sending video messages and the wide screen keyboard and the video camera. I'm hoping to one day have fairly good editing software on it."
Josiah Adams, 26: "I don't have an iPhone and I've kind of been holding out for the last four months now because I knew a new one was coming. I wanted to wait for the latest and greatest so here I am ... The compass feature is really nice, the voice feature is also pretty cool."
Pete Acker, 70: "What I have now is a Verizon LG and it freezes up and isn't user friendly. I'm looking for more convenience and ease of operation. As a 70-year-old, you're not as quick with these keyboards, and frankly I'm an Apple fan and always have been."
Jeffrey Merritt, 31: "I'm most excited about all the hardware stuff. I had the original iPhone and I skipped to 3G ... I like the multimedia, texting and that kind of stuff. It seemed like the right time."
Patrick O'Donnell, 42, co-founder of Urbanspoon, maker of a popular iPhone app: "The new camera is the most exciting. I realize it's only a handful of upgrades, but I take a ton of pictures with it, and I'm frustrated when I'm in a restaurant or whatever and I can't take a picture of the food, because it's too dark. So I'm very excited that I'll be able to take those low-light situations and be able to hold 32 gig of video."
Kelley Poston, 41: "The stereo component to it because I was selling Bluetooth headsets before and it just didn't make sense. And now that they've got it stereo compatible, that's the part I'm most excited about ... The improved battery life will help a lot. The video component, even if it's not ready day one, is a big improvement."
Alice Hsieh, 19: "Camera, and more apps. I have an iPod, so it's just going to be in one thing, that will be easier."
