Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz, like Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, gets peppered repeatedly with questions about a possible search or advertising partnership between the companies. Apparently she's getting tired of it, based on her comments today at a Merrill Lynch conference in New York.
"Forget about the Microsoft stuff, it's honestly not that relevant," Bartz said after yet another question on the topic, according to an Associated Press report.
However, Bartz did make it clear that she has given a lot of thought to the topic, estimating that a Microsoft deal would save Yahoo $500 million to $700 million a year, mostly from from cutting data centers and employees, according to PaidContent.org. However, she said that the company's future would be "possibly clearer and simpler" without a Microsoft connection.
Qi Lu, Microsoft's Online Services Business president and a former Yahoo executive, was similarly asked about the possibility of a deal during his appearance today at the SMX Advanced search conference in Seattle. "The best person to ask that question is Kara Swisher," Lu said, referring to the AllThingsD journalist who has been closely tracking the behind-the-scenes maneuvering.
