It's time to take your old cell phone out to the ballpark |

If you're like me, you may have an old cell phone or two laying around the house. Now, here's your chance to get rid of it and support a good cause along the way. At the Seattle Mariners game on Thursday night, fans are encouraged to donate used mobile phones and accessories in an effort to support Verizon Wireless' HopeLine program.
Proceeds go to survivors of domestic abuse, with more than five million phones either refurbished or recycled through the program since 2001. In the past two years in Washington state, Verizon has donated more than $150,000 and provided more than 400 HopeLine phones to domestic abuse agencies.
Last year, more than 1,000 used phones were donated at drop boxes at the ballpark.
The Mariners and Verizon should be able to top that number. After all, the M's are actually in a pennant race this year and can gain some ground in Thursday night's game against the division leading Texas Rangers.
Furthermore, I know they'll be some geeky, mobile phone-wielding folks at Thursday's game, since it also happens to be I Can Haz Cheezburger night.
Look for HopeLine boxes in front of gate entrances at Safeco Field from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
