Behind the scenes at '1 vs. 100' as glitch shuts down Xbox show |

I'm working on a story about the technology and business strategy behind "1 vs. 100" -- Microsoft's live, interactive, digital adaptation of the television game show, broadcast on a regular schedule on the Xbox 360 via the company's Xbox Live online gaming system. As part of my reporting, I went to the studio last night to witness the regular Friday night show from behind the scenes.
But shortly before they were to go live, the crew realized they couldn't get into the game. It turns out they weren't alone, as tens of thousands of people trying to log on also saw an error message. The show -- which is still in beta -- ultimately wasn't broadcast last night because of what was described as a database error. The studio crew stayed calm throughout the situation, doing everything they could to resolve it before ultimately realizing it was out of their hands. They expect to be back online for tonight's broadcast.
Host Chris Cashman, the voice of the show, kept the mood light with his trademark sense of humor -- at one point letting me shoot this video interview with him in the booth where he works during the broadcast.
Look for our full story on "1 vs. 100" next week.
