Clearwire's stock gains after plan to enter 10 new markets Sept. 1
Clearwire continues its WiMax march across the country with plans to launch its new Clear service in 10 markets on September 1. The Kirkland company said today that it will unveil service in Bellingham and Boise as well as eight Texas cities on that day.
And what about Seattle? The company reaffirmed that its hometown will be upgraded to the 4G wireless network this year. Other big cities on the list this year include: Chicago,
By the end of next year, the money-losing company said it plans to be in 80 markets across the country. It is currently operating in four markets.
The Clear service is designed to blanket large geographic areas with high-speed Internet service, making it easy for customers to get online whereever they wander.
Mobile plans start at $40 per month, with the company promising upload speeds of 1 Mbps and download speeds as fast as 10 Mbps.
Clearwire's stock gained 7 percent, or 59 cents, to $8.69 on the news.
