Dendreon said today that it plans to build a 160,000 square foot manufacturing facility near Atlanta -- confirming earlier reports by the Atlanta Business Chronicle. The plant will employ about 300 workers and cost $70 million.
The new facility will produce Provenge, a new prostate cancer treatment expected to be approved by the FDA in the coming months.
Dendreon also is upgrading a plant in Morris Plains, New Jersey and is working to develop a new facility in Seal Beach, Calif.
"We are pleased to announce that we are expanding our manufacturing capacity with the addition of two new facilities in Atlanta and Los Angeles," said Dendreon CEO Mitchell H. Gold in a release.
