Does Xbox have lock on Netflix?
Microsoft, in a dashboard update to Xbox Live today, referred to its Netflix video streaming as an "exclusive partnership," leading several blogs to ask if the other major game consoles Nintendo Wii and Sony PlayStation 3 are being left out in the cold when it comes to the popular movie service.
Here's how Microsoft phrased it:
This exclusive partnership offers you the ability to instantly stream movies and TV episodes from Netflix to the television via Xbox 360. Xbox 360 will be the only game console to offer this movie-watching experience, available to Xbox LIVE Gold members who are also Netflix unlimited plan subscribers, at no additional cost.
We're contacting Netflix about the game consoles -- and will update if we get more information. Netflix streams over a bunch of other devices, including the Roku set-top box, LG and Samsung Blu-ray players, and LG HDTVs.
