After we published a chart yesterday showing U.S. video game console sales over the past 18 months, a reader pointed out in the comments that it would be good to see the trends for video games themselves. So I went back and pulled together all the data from the public NPD reports over the past 18 months. As these charts show, all three segments -- including games -- have been hit by the tough economy.
Update: Charts updated with 2007 figures based on feedback in the comments below. Sales of video games, hardware and accessories in 2009 are tracking closer to 2007 levels, and in some cases slightly above, but still not close to the rapid growth the industry was experiencing in the past.
