Kotaku today has more evidence of a long-rumored change in Microsoft's Xbox 360 lineup -- specifically, the expected phasing out of the company's standard Xbox 360 Pro Model, and the dropping in price of the Xbox 360 Elite to $299.99.
The evidence comes in the form of a catalog, scheduled for publication on Aug. 30, that touts the "New Lower Price!" of the 360 Elite, which comes in black with a supersized 120 GB hard drive. Responding to the video-game blog, the company cited its policy of not commenting on "rumors or speculation."
Kotaku notes that the shift would leave "only two 360 consoles to choose from: the cheap, hard drive-less Arcade and the 120GB HDD Elite." But that seems a little thin, as a product lineup. Based on past patterns, it wouldn't be surprising if the company had a surprise up its sleeve, perhaps some new intermediate model or some other twist that would fill out the Xbox 360 lineup with more choices.
