Well, there's always Bumbershoot. But if you're a gaming fanatic who was waiting until the last minute to buy a ticket for this weekend's annual Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle, you're out of luck. Organizers announced this morning that the show is completely sold out.
The sell-out underscores the dramatic rise in popularity of PAX, as it's known. More than 70,000 people are expected to attend this weekend. Attendance has grown steadily since the conference debuted in 2004 as an outgrowth of the Penny Arcade webcomic.
It's not just the three-day passes that are sold out but the individual day passes, as well. In other words, nothing is left. The situation has put Penny Arcade in the unusual position of pleading with people not to come to the event if they haven't already bought a ticket. On the other hand, if you have a ticket, you may be able to capitalize on the situation: Lots of people are seeking them on cragslist.
"If you don't have a pass, don't come," said Robert Khoo, the show director, via phone this afternoon. "We're so terrified of people coming up and thinking they could buy a badge, but there's nothing we could do. I wish that we could do something."
