Pitch your biz plan to Richard Branson in 140 characters or less |
Follow the ups and downs of a new Seattle startup in a series of behind-the-scenes posts by its founders.
Sir Richard Branson
You've heard of the elevator pitch. Now, get ready for the 21st century version of it: the Twitter pitch.
Sir Richard Branson -- the billionaire founder of Virgin whose known for his marketing wizardry -- has begun accepting "micro pitches" via Twitter for an upcoming Los Angeles startup conference called PerfectBusiness that he's helping to organize.
The entrepreneur who submits the best Twitter pitch will win two free tickets to the conference, airfare and coaching to to "turn your tweet into a full blown business plan."
To submit an idea, entrepreneurs must send them to @perfectbusiness under the hashtag #micropitch. Right there, you've lost 27 characters, which means entrepreneurs need to keep it extra short.
If you can't summarize your business in less than 140 characters, Branson and the crew at PerfectBusiness are still allowing a slightly longer form pitch on the Web site for $60.
And from those, it plans to select three finalists who will receive the honor to pitch the business concept to Branson and venture capitalists from firms such as Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Rustic Canyon Partners and August Capital. Deadline for pitch submissions is Sept. 8, with the conference to be held Oct. 26.
Here's one of the submissions:
"organic breakfast delivery service via souped up retro hybrid ice-cream cart , incl. fair trade coffee."
