Hoping to work at a Microsoft store? Better hit the gym first |
Follow the ups and downs of a new Seattle startup in a series of behind-the-scenes posts by its founders.
Microsoft has begun seeking job applicants for its upcoming retail stores in Scottsdale, Ariz., and Mission Viejo, Calif. And if there was any doubt that this is no ordinary Microsoft job, that illusion is shattered by one of the minimum requirements in the listings for store associates: "Lifting/carrying 75 pounds (loading and unloading all those great products and carrying purchases out for our customers will be required!)"
That requirement was noted today by Steve Clayton, a Microsoft employee blogger in the U.K. who said he got a chuckle out of it. But it raises the question, what in the heck will Microsoft be selling in these stores that could weigh 75 pounds? Even if the company sells game consoles and computers, that seems a little heavy.
Maybe I've had a desk job for too long, and details of my part-time college job at UPS are a little cloudy at this point, but if I remember correctly, with anything that heavy we were required to get help from a co-worker.
At any rate, if you don't feel up to the task of lifting up to 75 pounds on a regular basis, you might want to apply to be an assistant manager instead. They're only required to lift up to 50 pounds.
