State delays 520 bridge tolls

Tolls won't be charged on the state Route 520 bridge until as late as June 2011 to let the state work out the details of the underlying technology. The state had previously planned to implement tolls as soon as October 2010, but the Washington State Department of Transportation said in a report last week (PDF) that iot was pushing back the timeline for the project.
The Seattle Times reported the news this morning. The plan has big implications for Microsoft and many other companies whose employees use the bridge to commute between Seattle and the Eastside every day. The tolls are expected to average around $2 or $3 per one-way trip, depending on the time of day.
The funds will help pay for a multi-billion-dollar bridge replacement project.
